The Sections of the Brain
The brain is divided into three sections: the forebrain, the midbrain, and the hindbrain.

· The parietal lobes are roughly the same size as the temporal lobes and are located at the top of each half of the brain – on your skull they start at the crown and extend downward toward the base. The parietal lobes control movement, body orientation, and perception and recognition of stimuli; and,
· The occipital lobes are the smallest and are located at the back halves of the brain – on your skull they inhabit that bulging area at the base. The occipital lobes control visual processing.
The cerebellum is also known as “the little brain.” It actually sits beneath the cerebrum at the base of the skull. Like the cerebrum, it is divided into two halves, but it is not divided into lobes. The cerebellum controls coordination, posture, and balance.
The Brain Stem
The brain stem is made up of two structures: the pons and the medulla oblongata, and sits in front of the cerebellum. The brain stem is the beginning of the spinal cord and controls all of your vital life functions, such as your heartbeat, blood pressure, and breathing.
